This document describes the functionality for the use of the “Phone Validation” app, created by Micro Apps. The app is designed and developed to automatically check phone numbers based on syntax.
Use this app to automatically correct the phone numbers to its international format in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It’s also possible update your existing phone numbers.
The installation of the Phone Validation app is available via the Microsoft Marketplace for Business Central extensions/apps. From here you can automatically install the extension and make it available within every company within your Business Central environment.
For the correct working of the app, make sure that the setting of the Micro Apps Base App is set for “allowing HttpClient Request”.

Once the installation is complete, the app needs to be set up.
This can be done with the Phone Validation Wizard. This wizard contains all the necessary steps to completely set up the extension. The first step is to register yourself and to activate the trial or subscription.
With the trial, you can use the app two weeks free of charge. After the trial period, you need to activate the subscription. By opening the subscription overview.
Make sure both fields are checked (like the example in the picture at the right)
The application has features for checking live phone numbers on the contact, customer and vendor cards. We recommend to leave this feature on to get your phone numbers automatically checked. You still have the possibility to leave a phone number incorrect if you want.
The other feature checks for mobile phone numbers. If a mobile phone number is detected, the application asks to move it to the mobile number field.
You can validate all phone numbers with the bulk validation wizard. To open this wizard click on the Validate button. This can take some time. If you wan to do it later, you can still do this on the “Phone Validation Setup” page.
To make sure that the users have the correct permissions to use the Phone Validation app. the permission set ‘Phone Validation ’is automatically assigned to every user. You don’t have to do anything to set the permissions. After this step, the configuration is finished.
After the installation and configuration has been completed, the page Phone Validation Setup is available in Business Central. With this page, the user can change the default settings, view the incorrect phone numbers, and start the bulk validation process.
With the installation of the extension, live phone validation is automatically enabled for all default phone fields within Business Central. When a phone number with a wrong syntax is typed within the phone or mobile phone fields, the system shows a message.
The user can correct the phone number after the message or just leave it invalid. When the input is correct, the number gets automatically formatted to its international format. Be aware that the country code needs to be selected before the phone number is filled.
Move mobile phone numbers to mobile fields
When the setting Check Mobile input has enabled and there is a mobile number within the phone field. The system asks the user if the phone number can be placed to the mobile field. After this action the phone number fields gets emptied.
Bulk phone number validation
As the app gets installed, chances are that your Business Central installation already contains phone numbers. To validate those phone numbers, the bulk validation wizard can be used. it is advised to run this wizard directly after installation of the app. If your database has a huge amount of phone numbers, this proces can take a while. (It does around 40k records within three minuts and 30 seconds).Open the Bulk Validation Wizard by clicking at validate on the Phone Validation Setup page.
The user can select the tables which needs to be validated. At default tables that include phone numbers are validated by the wizard. This works for the mobile phone numbers and the normal phone numbers fields.
After the bulk validation is finished, the results display directly on the screen. If the status is complete the validation process was successful. If not, the error message gets displayed. After finishing the wizard, the invalid phone number amount has updated.
Change incorrect numbers after bulk validation process
After the bulk validation process has finished the invalid phone number amount in the settings has updated. If there are invalid items, we can change them manually. Click on the number of invalid items to open the list of invalid phone numbers.
Click on the listed phone number to edit. After this the corresponding card will open.
Change the prefix of the phone numbers
Within the settings menu there are two options to change the viewing prefix. The show regional format boolean shows phone numbers from the same country in the regional syntax. The country information is being picked up from the company information table. The Default Viewing Prefix functionality can change the national prefix to 00 or + like 0031 or +31. Both methods only work for the list pages, as the edit pages show the actual table value.
